Well, hello. This Magnolia from Hero Arts has long been a favorite of mine. I kinda have an issue with using a stamp set one time and then moving on to something new. There is so much good stuff out there! This magnolia is still one of my favorites though. Come on, it is a floral, but more so it is so colorable, with so many mediums. It has room to play. It has enough detail for guidance, but not so much that they get in the way.
I got a little Ziggy with her today. I used a woodblock stamp, but Hero Arts just recently released a clear set too. The clear set is available at a few vendors now and will be at Hero Arts in mid-May. They are both linked up in the supply list at the bottom of this post. If you decide to purchase, check to make sure you are getting the version you want (the clear has a couple of sentiments included)!
I began by white heat embossing the Flowering Magnolia on Canson Montval watercolor paper. I then pulled out my trusty Zigs in a few of my favorite colors. The petals are Scarlet red, Wine Red and Peach Pink. The leaves are Persian Green, Mid Green and Olive Green. The stamen is Dark Oatmeal and Yellow. I like to start with my darkest shade first at the base of petals/leaves and in other areas that might be shadowed. I then follow with the next darkest shade and blend it out a little further. The final shade blended out just beyond the last two. I prefer to blend to a white highlight area instead of completely filling the area with color. I blend each level of shading with a damp paint brush. A water brush works as well, just offers a little less control.
Once dry naturally, I die cut the magnolia and adhered it to Navy Shimmer Paper. I die cut “Hello” from Snow Layering Paper and Gold Shimmer paper. I adhered them offset a bit with liquid adhesive. I added a strip of Tribal Stripes, stamped in black, on either side and adhered to a Snow Folded Card. A few of my favorite Champagne sequins set off the finished card.
Thank you for spending a few minutes with me today. I hope you have a fabulous week. Remember each day is one day closer to the weekend!! Happy crafting to us all!
