Hello, hello! I love halloween, well, let’s say the superficial Halloween. I don’t like the context it began in, but I sure do think it is a fun time to decorate and celebrate all things fun and spooky. I’ve created a two projects to share with you today. One, a sweet little witch toting her buddies in the trunk, and the second is a haunted cottage treat box. They have both just arrived back in stock at Spellbinders!
And, guess what?! SALE! Spellbinders has another sale this week. Pick up a Glimmer Hot Foil System for $99 and select Glimmer Plates and Foils are 40% off! My favorite foil, Aura, is included, as is the Speckled Prism foil I’ve used today! Sale is valid through Sunday, August 30th, 2020.
I’m not sure if these skeletons have been naughty or they are just having a good time hanging out of the trunk, but either way I think they are pretty dang funny! That witch? She is winning!
Recreate this project by ink blending an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) white smooth bristol cardstock panel around the perimeter with with Black Soot, Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Inks. Start with Black Soot at the top and blend down through each color to Spiced Marmalade. Repeat, but covering the full surface of an additional 4″ x 5 1/4″ white smooth bristol cardstock panel. Overlap colors to create a smooth transition. While I tend to use blending brushes for most inks anymore, I do find that the old school Ranger Blending Tools with Curved Foam Blenders is the best combination for me and Distress Oxide Inks.
Once blending is complete sprinkle clear water over the top and let dry.

While blended panel is drying, die cut selected elements from Sunday Drive and add-on, Halloween Sunday Drive, from white cardstock. Most any will do. No fancy blending techniques going on here. Color cut images with your favorite markers in blacks, oranges and purples (I used Copics), or use colored cardstock to begin with. A silver metallic marker gives the bumper, tail lights and mirrors their chrome look.
Adhere blended panel, popped, on top of border panel with ink colors in the opposite direction. Assemble car image together onto blended background with liquid Precision Glue to allow a touch of wiggle to move things perfectly into place. Adhere bats into place and then attach finished card to folded card base.
I’ve made my girls, who are distance learning from home, a treat box for their desks. So fun to tuck little snacks in to help get them through their Zoom class lessons and homework!
The base cottage and roof of my haunted cottage is created with the Charming Cottage die set. I’ve given it a creepy spin with the inclusion of the Spooky Cottage add-on die pack. This project, like the card above, feature products that build on each other. There is something incredibly satisfying to me about purchasing new items that expand my creative options with something I already have. I’ll take all the add-ons, please and thank you! Keep ’em coming Spellbinders!
Recreate this project by randomly ink blending 2 larger white smooth bristol cardstock panels with Ground Espresso, Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo inks. The more old and decrepit the better! Once panels are full of color, sprinkle with clear water to create a splotchy effect. Set aside to dry.
Die cut any additional elements desired out of either colorable white cardstock or from colored cardstock.

Once large blended panels are dry, cut 2 cottage pieces. Any designs that you would like to have as windows to see inside the box are to be cut at this point. Designs to be adhered to outside of cottage can be ink blended or colored with your favorite markers, and then adhered after assembly. I ink blended my mummy and gothic style doors/window with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide. Assemble cottage with a strong dry tape or liquid glue.
Finish project by filling with a sweet treat and tying a twine bow to top.
