Hi and welcome to my little slice of Creative Bliss on the interwebs! Today, I am hopping along with Spellbinders and several talented designers to showcase new Spellbinders Cut & Emboss Folders. These folders are all we love about traditional embossing folders which leave a raised design in paper, and die cutting, all done in one pass through the die cutting machine. Scroll on down for 3 projects and information on how to enter to win 2 giveaways!
Quick Links

The Floret Cluster Cut & Emboss Folder embraces bold blooms with die cut centers. With summer swiftly drawing to a close around these parts as school starts back up in just under 2 short weeks, I’m not quite over summer’s gorgeous sunsets, as you can see.

First, create the background on a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Smooth Bristol paper with Distress Oxides in Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin and Squeezed Lemonade. Bottoms up! Begin with a Mini Ink Blending tool and Wilted Violet at the bottom. Then move through the other colors blending in small circles, horizontally, across the bottom of the card. Overlap each slightly for an even gradient of color.

Place blended panel into embossing folder and pass through die cutting machine with suitable “sandwich.” For the first time ever, I was thrilled to see stretch marks as I revealed my embossed panel! The tiny white “cracks” peeking through all that color give the neatest highlights, an added level of dimension and detail.
Stamp sentiment in black and add embossed strip.

Project two features the Blooming Sprigs Cut & Emboss Folder, a sweet bouquet with three sets of die cut petals. One swoop through the die cutting machine, guys. That’s it!

The same Distress Oxide colors were used here on the same paper. To achieve this look, ink blend each of the four colors in their own corner of smooth bristol paper and overlap them generously to create secondary colors. The intensity of color is created by building several layers of Oxide ink. Just keep going!
Once color richness is achieved, place panel color side up into embossing folder. Pass through die cutting machine and reveal. Awesome, right?

Stamp sentiment several times with stamp positioner (like a Misti) and lots of pressure! Repeat stamp several times to get as much coverage as possible. Use a fine tipped black Micron pen or Sharpie to fill in any gaps in the nooks and crannies of embossed area. Emboss and adhere sentiment strip with dimensional adhesive.
The sentiment set Hello You by CZ Design for Simon Says Stamp is one of my all time favorites. The “Hello” is splendid in style, size and font. The add-on sayings are sweet and salty, and just perfection!

Project three is rounded out with the Flora Banner Cut & Emboss Folder. This design leaves an unadorned area across the center of the panel, perfect for a sentiment.

The same ingredients are used to create this card, but in a different order. Pass the smooth bristol panel through the die cutting machine first, before any ink application. Super easy peasy.

Then ink blend with the same mini ink blenders and colors over the raised design. Inking in this order really highlights the design like when rubbing a crayon on paper over a leaf. For those that want to really get in there and highlight each ridge very carefully, Ranger has created Detail Blending Tools that can do just that! For a gentler effect, Blending Brushes would be my go to.

awesome folders, awesome cards!
Your colors are so pretty and rich!
What an amazing idea! These cards are beautiful and remind me of “cutwork” embroidery
These colors are so rich, but I have to wonder how you did it without creating mud when some of those shades mixed, especially where the purple hits the orange or yellow. You are braver than I, but the results are quite dramatic. Thank you.
I think that is part of the charm of the Distress Oxides. Their pigments don’t seem to mix with each other just kind of lay next to each other, if that makes sense. I don’t think I would have been able to get away with a few of those colors next to each other in a dye ink without creating mud.
Wow, girl, these are FABULOUS cards and your colors are so wonderful, too. GREAT JOB!
