Howdy, friends! Awhile back, I went a little nuts in a particular alcohol ink session. I created so many backgrounds panels that I ran myself out of room to let them dry. There were a few dozen. I was just lost in the moment(s) and having a ton of fun. Then, someone needed to eat, again. And that put an end to that… until next time. Probably a good thing or I would have been spilling out into the hall!
This is not an uncommon occurrence with myself and alcohol inks though. When I get them out, I do tend to play away making endless panels. So then, what do I do with them? After they are good and dry I tuck them away into a drawer for later use. As soon as I saw the Spellbinders Zen Garden Welcome die set, I knew it would be perfect to pair with one of these backgrounds… creating two similar cards.
I’ve got a thing for shakers lately, so that was my first project. Begin by die cutting the Zen Garden Welcome window and frame into Dove White cardstock. Adhere acetate over the back of the opening and then add two layers of foam tape around the window to create a well. Add Nuvo Pearl Rectangle Gemstones into the well, along with silver seed beads. Trim and adhere the alcohol ink panel in place and then adhere the shaker portion to a folded card base. Stamp sentiment in Intens-ified Black ink.
The alcohol ink panel was created by wetting heavyweight Yupo (synthetic, plastic-like paper) with Blending Solution. Blending Solution is similar to rubbing alcohol, but has bonding resins which seal metallic alcohol ink alloys in place that would otherwise rub off and scratch. Add a few sporadic drops of Glacier, Laguna, Flamingo and Gumball inks. Add a few of Sterling Alloy, a gorgeous silver metallic. Then push ink, creating organic shapes with a straw or air blower.
The second card is quite similar, and even uses the other half of the alcohol ink panel, but is not a shaker. Die cut the Zen Garden Welcome window into Dove White cardstock, but without the frame piece. Trim the white panel to 4″ x 5 1/4″, or trim before die cutting, if you prefer. Stamp Intens-ified Black ink sentiment. Add a single layer of foam tape to the back and then adhere StazOn Black ink Floral Love stamped alcohol ink panel in place. Adhere to folded card base to complete project.
The Spellbinders Zen Garden Welcome die set also include a lantern, which I love. I didn’t use it in today’s designs, but it is pictured on the right hand side of the focus picture in this post. I keep going back and forth on if it should have a home on this card. I still can’t decide, but it is easily added, should I eventually choose to.
Thank you kindly for joining me today. I do appreciate you and I hope that I have encouraged you to just play with alcohol inks. Give them a go. No need to have a plan for all the beautiful panels you create, just yet. You’ll find a project for them!
Wishing you each a beautiful week full of warm sunshine on your faces and good news to lift your spirits.
