Hi there! Today, I am sharing about a class I took… last year! I colored this image with Prismacolor Premier colored pencils, alongside Alyce (the kindest, most encouraging teacher – ever!) in the spring of 2017. I am finally getting around to posting about it for two reasons. First, this class is on sale right now for 40% off! Every month Alyce, of Kit & Clowder, releases a new coloring class in pencil and in marker. For a limited time she is selecting past classes and offering them at a slashed price. She offers subscriptions or a la carte, beginner through advanced.
Honestly, I have learned so much about coloring from Alyce. The Kit & Clowder site is easy to navigate and take or continue lessons. Classes are broken down into sections. Don’t feel like you have to sit and go through the whole class at once. You don’t. And maybe even shouldn’t. Coloring hand cramp, anyone? Pause and repeat classes in motion as needed. Upload your work in progress or finished piece for feedback from Alyce herself. She also runs a nearly 20,000 member strong Facebook group. Oh, and she’s an Aussie. So yep, you might just want her to voice your Siri too.
The second reason, life is short. Sometimes all too short. Last week a friend passed and I once again needed a sympathy card. Sympathy cards are hard. I often don’t have them on hand when I need them. In those times, I’m generally not feeling too creative. I decided to pull this image I had colored from its place of prestige in my craft room and finally finish it. It’s perfect for her.
I’ve always appreciated that I can print the image whatever size I want with Alyce’s classes. The recommend size, if I remember right, was 5″ x 7″. I went with my standard card size, A2 at 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ on good ol’ Neenah Solar White 80# paper. Eventually I had planned to create a card. Let’s just say it was on my “to do” list. Another bonus with Kit & Clowder classes is that you have access to any class you purchase, forever. Whether you are a subscriber or not.
I loved how I achieved the intricacies of each petal, but these buds?!?! Oh my! The glow and depth of the foliage is impressive. I cannot believe I colored that. I did! Me! The good news is, you can too!
To finish this up as a card I trimmed down the panel a smidge. I adhered With Sympathy and glued the panel to a black folded card base with a white interior to create a mat. I then added a few sparkles. I probably didn’t even need to do that much. I could have left it alone and just wrote what my heart needed to say on the inside.
Kit & Clowder classes are packed with great information and techniques. Alyce is the icing with her sweet self. Her classes are a great value, but this one (Fabulous Florals), on sale 40% off through June 30th, 2018, is a freaking steal!
If you head on over to meet Alyce (and I encourage you to), be sure to tell her I sent you!
I’ll always do my best to link you to shops with products in stock. As you know, inventory levels are always fluctuating and therefore may not be available. Please use the retailer notification buttons to let them know you want more!
