Distressing Pineapples X2

Distressing Pineapples X2

Welcome to the initial installment of Work Your Stash Wednesday! It has been such beautiful weather here in Central California (low 70’s!). I have been craving all things spring and summer. I am born and bred California, and I just don’t like the cold. And by cold I mean below 60*. I’ll take 110* over 40 any day. When I happened across this W Plus 9 Summer Citrus stamp set I knew I had to get her out to bring sunshine to my soul.

I began by stamping several Summer Citrus pineapples in W Plus 9 Pure Color Black ink. It is a crisp, deep, dark, and waterproof black ink that is among my favorites. I then Versamaked and clear heat embossed them to create wells for watercolor. After smooshing Mustard Seed and Peeled Paint Distress Inks on my craft mat, I added a a bit of water to each and loosely painted in the pineapples beginning with the yellow toward the top and the green at the bottom. Drying and adding color repeatedly will create a richer color as well as add the awesome watermarks.

Die cut an A2 oatmeal panel with the Waffleflower Pinking Layers and stitch with black size 5 DMC Pearl Cotton. Stamp sentiment with the same Pure Color Black ink. Adhere three pineapples popping the center one for dimension. Adhere finished panel to A2 folded card base.

Stay Classy was created by first white heat embossing the Citrus Background Builder pineapple on Bristol paper. I watercolored the background in the same manner as I did the pineapples with the previous card. Once dry, I trimmed it a bit shy of the standard A2 of 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. I usually trim down about 3/8″ from the top and a side when applying a mat.

I popped the white heat embossed banner up that I had trimmed with a strip of black and white stripe from the scrap bin. I trimmed the sentiment strip to fit the watercolor panel after I adhered it. No need for measuring in this instance. After adhereing the watercolor panel to the folded card base, I again used dimensional adhesive for the pineapple. I also set it at an angle to just overhang the watercolor panel, but not the card base.

Thank you for joining me for Work your Stash Wednesday! If you have something in your stash you’d like me to create with, contact me and if I have it (or maybe something similar), I’ll give it a go! See you soon!

Glittery Christmas Rose Bouquet

Glittery Christmas Rose Bouquet

It’s Friday, it’s Fri-Yay! I’m so happy to be sharing WPlus9‘s newest release as a part of their release week. There are several new sets from floral to the new Crew. Today I am featuring, Christmas Rose Bouquet. You guys, it just blew me away! The full swag is beautiful and I love that it was drawn with simple details. These types of designs, with open petals and leaves, are among my favorite because they lend so well to marker, pencil and watercolor. All of my faves!

I even created a video tutorial for you! Score one for me! It is loaded with tips, as well. If you have a few, I’d love for you to give it a view, like and subscribe!

You can find my post on the WPlus9 blog here.

To create depth and dimension I applied the Zig color first in Wine Red and then in the darker shaded areas, Deep Red. The orange-ish touch was added to the secondary flowers in Scarlet Red. The leaves were colored with Mid Green and Olive Green. Each color was applied in the area I wanted to appear most recessed, and then blended out with the Nuvo Glitter Gloss marker. The sparkle is phenomenal! You can see this pretty lady shine from across the room… reminiscent of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, lol!

Die cut the Christmas Rose Bouquet and pop with dimensional adhesive above black and white polka dot and striped paper for an eye-catching creation. Final touches on this A2 card were added with a sentiment from The Crew: Garden Club new release stamp set and topped off with Ivory Seashell Nuvo Crystal Drops.

The video tutorial is loaded with more detailed instructions and is chock full of tips for accurate and smart crafting! Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more from me on YouTube!

Head on over to the WPlus9 blog to take a peek at more from the design team and guest designers. Find the WPlus9 YouTube channel here and their shop here.

Thanks so much for visiting today. So much gratitude to Dawn, Jana and WPlus9 for allowing me to be a part of release week! I hope you all have a long and luscious weekend! If you get crafty with tip, tricks or something you’ve seen here, I’d love for you to tag me on Instagram!

Humble and Kind

Humble and Kind

You guys, this showed up in my mailbox today! I had a super busy day between minimum school day, parent-teacher conferences, dentist cleaning for the Littles and a trip to my favorite Target – but, I could not wait to create with the new Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember collaboration set with WPlus9! Ahh, I’m obsessed with these darling tulips!

The STAMPtember releases tend to be super hot commodities so if you are interested in any you see throughout the month, I recommended popping them in your cart and checking out right away. I’ve missed out on a few in the past and have been super disappointed!

Here is a similar card I watercolored with an exclusive WPlus9 set just for those that attended Simon Says Stamp Create in April 2017.  So many folks messaged me on how they could get it, but it just wasn’t available outside of Create. I am so happy to see that Dawn designed more gorgeous tulips so that everyone can oooo and ahhh over them in their own hot little hands! Remember, you won’t find these anywhere but Simon Says Stamp. They are a STAMPtember exclusive. There are limited supplies. When they are gone, they’re gone.

I created this card by heat embossing with Ranger Copper powder onto Canson Montval watercolor paper. I then colored with my Zigs, heat embossed the sentiment in Ranger White and added a few matte Little Things by Lucy Champagne sequins onto SSS black cardstock which was framed with SSS Butterscotch Glimmery cardstock. Delicious!

Make time to squeeze in your Creative Bliss today. It’s a decision you won’t regret!

W Plus 9 Tulips

W Plus 9 Tulips

So this is a bit of a humility post, stick with me. I painted the watercolor portion of this card at Simon Says Stamp Create back in April. It was a class taught by Dawn Woleslagle of W Plus 9 with the exclusive Create Something Beautiful stamp set designed especially for Create. I adore Dawn and was all too happy to be able to take a class with her in person. I had previously participated in a class she instructed on onlincecardclasses.com called Watercolor for Card makers: Intermediate Techniques. I learned so much. The most valuable lesson, for me, was about watercolor and what makes it move: pigment loads versus water and the like. You’ll learn to create or avoid what some people call the dreaded “bloom” and so much more. It was a $25 well spent! Since OCC students have lifetime access to classes they have purchased, I intend to go through it again. There is so much information to absorb!

Here’s the humility part of the post. Look closely at this image. I painted it in and hour and half. It has so many flaws. Blow it up by clicking View and then Zoom at the very top of your screen. I wanted to go back and add depth, shadow and crisp lines before I shared here, but I decided the piece deserved to stand alone – mistakes and all. Yes, it is easy to go back and add detail to watercolor. Let me ask you this though, how many mistakes did you see, even after I asked you to go back and look it over? I’m willing to bet it is nowhere near the dozens I can count. The point is this: no one will critique your work like you do. If you stop or slow your creation because you are obsessing over perfection – stop. No one notices that level of detail but you. As a Type A personality, I get it. Completely. I love the details, I do. Don’t let them steal your mojo or confidence though. Create, share, engage, post. You will be so impressed with yourself when you revisit those old posts. The proof is in my Instagram feed, and many other creatives feeds too.

I’ve come along way baby! I’ma keepin it goin and I hope that you do to. Practice makes progress.

Oh, and yes, this was supposed to be for Mother’s Day. Let’s just say I am super early for next year! *insert huge cheesy grin*

Thanks so much for joining me in my Creative Bliss today. I hope that you’ll visit yours today too!

Redonkulous Watercolor Ranunculus Shaker

Redonkulous Watercolor Ranunculus Shaker

Good Thursday to you all! You are so close to the long 3 day weekend, hang in there! Today I am up on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog with this Redonkulous Ranunculus Shaker card. The Beautiful Bouquet: Ranunculus stamp set is a new release by WPlus9. It is amazing! Pop on over to see what it is all about. The card looks more complicated than it is. You can create it too!

If you are feeling like you need a little backup on the watercolor front, check out WPlus9 founder/designer Dawn Woleslagle teaching the Watercolor For Card Makers: Intermediate Techniques class at Online Card Classes. I learned so much and with lifetime access, I’ll be going through all the lessons again. After spending some time with watercolors I know I will pick up so much more information with another run through.
