My Favorite Things May 2018 Release

My Favorite Things is just that, some of my favorite things! Every month MFT Stamps releases a slew of awesomeness. They have about everything from cutesy to geometric, ultra girly to super masculine. Stitching? They’ve got that. Innovative and interactive? Yep!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few of the new release items and I’m featuring 3 of those sets for you today. Let’s take a look!

I don’t have sons, but rest assured my girls have been cozied up to pets with grass stained knees more times than I can count. I colored Little Buddies with Copic markers and then die cut them. I heat embossed the sentiment and adhered all components to an A2 folded card base. You can learn how I created the alcohol ink color block here, as this is a scrap from the same session.

I Copic-ed on Neenah #110 Classic Crest in solar white. My go to for Copics. Know that many Copic colors are similar and you don’t need the exact shade to replicate this look. The colors I used were: Skin- E50, E53, E33. Hair- 100, W7, W5. Jeans- YG17, B99, B97, B95, B93, B91. Shirt- C7, C5, C3, C1. Cat- YR15, YR21, YR20, YR000, Y28, R20. Dog- E27, E25, E23, E21, YG17, YG23.

A touch of Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide with a Retractable Blending Brush shaded the upper corners.

This little sweetness reminds me of my youngest, Evie. Only difference really is that my Little has amazingly enviable eyebrows!  I love the simplicity of the Love You a Bunch design. It provides lots of room to showcase those coloring skills. Here again, I chose Copic markers. Once colored, I die cut her (that doesn’t sound very nice!) and popped her up over a Lemon Drop inked Itsy Bitsy Polka Dot Background that I die cut with the Jumbo Peek-a-Boo Circle.

I Copic-ed on Neenah #110 Classic Crest in solar white. The colors I used were: Skin- E50, E53, E33 (my fave combo). Hair- E79, E18, E15, E13. Dress- R37, R35, R22, R20, Y17, Y13, Y11. Flowers- G99, YG17, Y15, YR15, R35, R20.

Awe, Sweet Somebunny! This set was so fun to work with. Little bunny cruisin’ in her snazzy yellow convertible. How freakin’ cute?! For this card I die cut a circle mask and ink blended with Blueprint Sketch, Broken China and Peacock Feathers for the sky. Lucky Clover and Twisted Citron make up the grass. I sprinkled on a bit of water for detail. I used Open Road to bisect the circle, die cut Miss Somebunny, and adhered all components in place.

Again, I Copic-ed on Neenah #110 Classic Crest in solar white. The colors I used were: Bunny- E50, E53, E33, R20. Top/Purse B69, B66, FB2, E99, E35. Car- Y17, Y15, Y13, C8, C6, C4, C3, C1, BG000. Trees- G29, G19, YG09, YG29, E99, E35.

The trees aren’t really colored, per say. They are dotted! I love the leafy effect!

Little Prince

Little Prince

Our family, and even extended family is loaded with girls. So when we got the news our niece revealed baby boy Everett was coming along we we all thrilled. Of course we were excited for any baby, but a boy, what do we do with that? I haven’t made but one or 2 “boy” quilts and cards, phish, they always lean toward feminine.

When MFT came out with this super cute set of stamps, I knew it would fill that void.

My Brother Scan N Cut 2 makes so many of my die cutting needs a breeze. Occasionally though, it thinks it is smarter than I. When I placed these letters together I intentionally left a gap between the “W” and the rest of the word. When I scanned it to the machine though it wanted to cut the images separately, no matter how much of a border I added to them.

To overcome this issue, I colored a bit of a Post-It note black in the adhesive section, trimmed it and applied it to fit between the two letters. This way when it was re-scanned the machine thought they were connected too. #BeSmarterThanTheMachine

Tip: The first thing to wear on cutting mats for the Scan N Cut, for me, is the adhesion. There is generally enough stick to keep the image intact for scanning, but when it cuts sometimes the image will slide. To make the cutting mats last a bit longer, I place my images on the mat, scan it and then tape them down with washi-tape without removing it from the machine. Then cut once the images are secure. This avoids the machine scanning the washi-tape and trying to cut it too (even more so with irregularly shaped paper).

Copic Marker Colors:

  • Castle/Armor – W1, W3, W5, W7
  • Dragon – B28, BG49, BG45, BG32, YR68, Y17, Y08, Y02
  • Horse – E29, E27, E25, E23, E21
  • Skin – E30, E31, E35, R20
  • .05 Black Copic Multiliner

I colored all of the images with the Copic markers and then cut them with the Brother Scan N Cut 2, though the images can be fussy cut or the coordinating dies may be used.

I typed out “LITTLE PRINCE” on the Dymo Handheld Label Maker (which is under $10!). Then I assembled all the components on a scant A2 MFT Watercolor Wash paper. Mat with A2 black cardstock and adhere to base.

And because we wish nothing but enchanting dreams and big adventures for this Little Prince, this super sweet sentiment is enclosed in the card that accompanies the quilt I made for him.

Thanks to you for popping in and taking the time to read about my latest Creative Bliss!

Your Enabler, Janette

P.S. I’ve entered this card into the challenge over at the Simon Say Stamp Monday Challenge. This month’s theme is “Transport It.” Up for grabs is a $50 voucher to Simon Says Stamp retail shop.

Fantastically Foilicious!

Fantastically Foilicious!

Sympathy cards are not something we want to have to send, but we do. We send them to let those we care about know that we are thinking of them at a time of loss. We may not know the right words to say, but a handmade card just might touch them in a way that words cannot.

I’m over on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog today to share with you this super shiny sympathy card. High shine is difficult to photograph, but let me assure you, this card is all that… and easy too! You can check out the post here.

Happy day to you all!

Fun in the Sun

Fun in the Sun

Summa – Summa – Summa Time, Summertime! Yay! Summer is my favorite time of year, even living here in the the Central Valley of California where these long hot days often reach over 100*. To beat the heat, one of our favorite things to do is lounge on all the bright inflatables in the cool refreshing pool. This My Favorites Things Fun in the Sun Stamp set was just screaming to be a poolside shaker card, reminiscent of our summer days.

This is one of the most simple shaker cards I have made. I tend to make things complicated, I’m a work in progress. 😉 Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink was the perfect color for a simple watercolor background. To achieve the watery effect, I just sloppily applied 3 layers. Smoosh the ink onto a craft mat and pick up with a water loaded brush. Apply to watercolor paper in random fashion. Let completely dry between layers. Trim to A2 size, 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. Stamp the sentiment.

Next, die cut an inside scallop frame and an outside scallop frame in your chosen border colors. Remember, if you don’t have the cardstock color you want, you can always make it with Copic markers or watercolor, or any other medium that colors. Next, color the adorable raft and sunbather. I used Copic markers to create a bright and cheery rainbow raft, beach ball and yellow suit. I added a light shadow to give the impression of a little rounded baby belly. Adorbs!

To assemble the card I layered the scallop frames and acetate. Next, I folded two layers of 3M foam tape together and then adheared them to the acetate. Be sure all the edges connect. No one wants seed beads or droplets at their feet.

After fussy cutting all the Copic colored elements, I added an Action Wobbler to the back of the raft. I wanted her to float above the water and allow the beads and ball to slide behind her. She shimmies a bit that way too. Adhere her to the center of the watercolor panel and load with droplets and seed beads around her, but away from the edges of the card. Remove the backing from the foam tape and apply acetate panel to watercolor panel. Voila, we got us a shaker!

Quick Tip: If making cards ahead for no one in particular, wait to stamp the interior sentiment until you’ve chosen a recipient. That way you can personalize the card for a birthday, congratulations or a cheery pick me up. Share your Creative Bliss, you just might make someone’s day!

Sorry I Overreacted

Sorry I Overreacted

MFT is one of my all time favorite companies. They produce quality products I love, release after release. The most recent release is no exception. This Undeniable Chemistry stamp set and the coordinating dies, Chemistry, are on point! I’ve paired them with Prima Watercolor Paper and Distress Inks in Squeezed LemonadeCarved Pumpkin and Candied Apple.

So, in closing, I’ll admit that my particles get charged from time to time- and not always in a good way. A card like this is a great way to get a do over. 😉

Check out the details of this card on the Butterfly Reflection’s, Ink blog here. You can shop for the goodies here!

Keep dry and warm this weekend! I hear quite a bit of snow will be blanketing some of you. Sounds like a great excuse to enjoy your state of Creative Bliss!
