Valentine’s Quickies w/Metallic Mist

Valentine’s Quickies w/Metallic Mist

As promised, a couple more quickie Valentine’s cards! These two are created from products out of the Hero Arts Valentine’s catalog (their first catalog I created for). Both cards feature the Pink Shimmer spray on Bristol paper, which is key good color and sparkle.

Pink Metallic Mist on Bristol paper is amazing, on Neenah not so much. When it is misted on Neenah the color absorbs into the paper and leaves a silvery sparkle, which, don’t get me wrong, could be great if that is the look you are after. I wasn’t. I wanted the pink to stand out. I opted for spritzing it onto plastic stamp packaging and then smooshing it onto Bristol paper. The Bristol paper has a smooth coating and keeps the color on the surface and still dries well. Win, win!

I used two Nesting Hearts to create a chipboard heart frame and coated it with several layers of Gold embossing powder. I stamped an adorbs Cherub in Crimson ink and die cut. I attached a couple of banners, one with a sentiment and the other made up of Tiny Hearts. I adhered everything in place and used a Tiny Attacher for the banners.

The Pink Metallic Mist on this card was first sprayed onto a swirl stencil. I was using the stencil in a more traditional fashion for this card and thought well I don’t want to waste all of this loveliness on the stencil itself. So I carefully moved the stencil to a dry area of my craft mat and placed an A2 Bristol panel on top. I let it sit a moment for good color transfer and then revealed patterned goodness.

After stamping the sentiments in Intense Black ink and heat embossing the heart in the center, I trimmed the panel down a touch and adhered it to a black Midnight Layering paper. Makes for a simple card, easily mailed. Perfect quickie to give to those in which you want to share your handmade kindness, but think they probably don’t value it the same way we do. We all have those people in our lives. It doesn’t mean they are less deserving, just perhaps a quicker card!

Remember, cards don’t have to be complicated and time consuming to be meaningful. Get creating and get them in the mail to put a smile on someone you cherish. Share your Creative Bliss! <3

Simple and effective card for Valentine’s Day or any day!

I found Bristol paper to be key in achieving a bright pink shimmer. More porous paper is pretty too, but offers a different look to the spray.

  • Washi tape Swirl Stencil in place over Bristol paper and spray with Pink Metallic Mist. A fuller, firmer press of the nozzle will provide a finer mist. A slower press will provide more of a droplet effect. Remove stencil and set aside to dry.
  • Adhere narrow accent strip of black from Midnight Layering Paper pack.
  • Trim swirl panel to fit bottom area of card and adhere.

Using Scraps for Quick Holiday Thanks

Using Scraps for Quick Holiday Thanks

Hi friends! Today, I am over on the Hero Arts blog sharing how I used scrap paper and play panels (you know, the ones you stuff in a drawer and think I’ll use that someday…) to create quick Holiday Thanks cards. Click here to take a peek!

Thanks for popping in and I’ll be back tomorrow!

Are the Holidays Over Yet? (+Giveaway)

Are the Holidays Over Yet? (+Giveaway)

I know, I know. We are just getting started and I am over it already. Please tell me I am not alone. Maybe if the holiday decor and music didn’t start showing up the day after Halloween I could make it to Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, I adore my family and gift giving, but sometimes I sure feel all Bah-Humbug! For those days, a card like this would sure lift my spirits and put a smile on my face. Unexpected happy mail is awesome therapy!

I’ll tell you this, Mrs. Understand Blue herself, Lydia Fielder, recently recommended a paper trimmer. I have been through so many paper trimmers over the years. Either the guides break, they don’t cut square, they don’t cut cleanly – whatev’s. This is my dream trimmer. I am so in love with it. It’s not cheap, but it’s good. Oh so good! Meet the 12″ Rotatrim. Just makes my heart pitter-patter thinking about her! She cuts like buttah and handles a full 12″ paper, no problem. Perfectly square, smooth as silk, and now I just need to name her. <3

Oh, and I have a fun little giveaway too! Enter through the Rafflecopter widget below to win a set of Hero Arts Fir Tree Infinity Dies, Red Royal Mid-Tone Shadow Ink and Gold Shadow Ink. They are some of my favorite things this season!

To create this card I die cut a couple of the medium size of Infinity Fir Trees from vellum. I dipped a cotton swab into the Minc Reactive Mist and then ran that along the upper edges of the trees, like snow might be. Set that aside to get tacky and Sparkle heat emboss the Christmas Poster Background onto Blush Layering Paper. Create a mat with Gold Shadow Ink and the Stripe Bold Prints on Snow Layering Paper. Solid lines on big stamps can be difficult in one pass. A Misti, or other precision stamp tool, make repeat stamping a breeze.

Carefully place vellum trees, covered with gold foil (dull side to the trees) inside a carrier sheet and send through Minc Machine. Once they are through the machine gently reveal your shiny little treasure! Adhere striped mat to A2 folded card base, then red panel, then trees with vellum adhesive. Even though it works well with vellum, I still like to hide the adhesive as best I can. Here I did behind the 2 layers of trees and behind the sentiment. Heat emboss sentiment from Off-Beat Holidays Messages (OMGosh, the funniest set!) and pop with dimensional adhesive. Add a few Ombre Blush sequins for sparkle.

(If you aren’t seeing the Rafflecopter widget just above this note, you may have security/virus protection blocking it. If you are on a mobile device try to request the desktop version or visit from a desktop/laptop. I use Rafflecopter to keep the true integrity of the giveaway, and will do so in the future. More giveaways to come!)

Lots of deep breaths to get us through this hustle and bustle of the holidays, friends! And a giveaway… giveaways really help. Don’t forget to go through the Rafflecopter widget to enter. It does all the hard work of keeping track and choosing a random winner! I’ll announce the lucky crafter in just a few days!

Make time to create. It’s therapy, you know!

Oh, Christmas Tree

Oh, Christmas Tree

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree. How Lovely are thy branches…. blah, blah, blah… I don’t know the rest of the lyrics (all in my best sing-songy voice, of course)!

Our Christmas tree is up and glowing. I love to turn off all the lights and enjoy it in all its glistening goodness. No denying that is what inspired today’s card created with Hero Art’s Classic Christmas Tree!

I created this card by first stamping the Christmas Tree in Hero Arts Unicorn Pigment ink on Black Midnight Layering Paper. I blasted it with a heat tool to speed up the dry time. I’m impatient like that *snicker*. Next, I colored the image by tracing the white lines with Prismacolor Colored Pencils. A Signo White Uniball Pen provided the crisp white of the candle bases and ornament details.

Next, I die cut the image and blended ink from the inside toward the outside of the the negative space with Hero Arts White Dye Ink and a touch of Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink. Adhere to A2 folded card base and I then replaced the positive into the opening. I added the Christmas Banner sentiment on kraft, a few stars from Hero Arts Champagne Sequins and Nuvo Crystal Drops in Ivory Seashell. Place in a safe space to dry overnight. Nuvo drops are awesome, but they do take a bit of time to dry completely.

Thank you for spending a few minutes reading about today’s card. I’d love to see what you are creating and pictures of your Christmas trees. Tag me!

Winter Deer

Winter Deer

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! This Hero Arts Winter Deer just makes me so darn happy! She is just the cutest. I love the detail and flexibility of the die set. It comes as 2 pieces. There is the deer unit and an outline. You can leave the positives and negatives all in tack or pop them out as I did here. Score one for me, I saved the antlers for another project. Yay!

Oh, and If you are a Black Friday shopper and pulled an all-nighter, or nearly all-nighter, kudos to you! I, too, am furiously gathering goods on this divine shopping day, but only in my slippers in front of the computer with hot java in hand!

PS: My apologies if you were one of those with multiple emails on that last post, oopsie! One small shift created a kerfuffle of issues. Finger crossed it is all resolved. Thanks for your patience.

This is a great project to use that random piece of cardstock you have laying on your desk. Yes, I know you have those too! This was an AWOL A2 panel I had floating around. With a palette knife I swiped Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Pacific Teal across the panel and set is aside to dry. Next, I die cut the deer from Hero Arts metallic cardstock.

Then I White Puff heat embossed a chipboard die cut of Joy. Three layers of this fun embossing powder created a snow like look. Next, I whipped several quick loops of red thread around the O and an antler to attach them together. Once the mousse panel was dry I adhered the deer with Ranger Collage Medium – which has super sticking power. Adhere panel to A2 folded card base and your foiled deer pops on that shimmery teal background!

Thank you for taking time with me today! Give yourself at least 5 minutes to squeeze in your Creative Bliss today. It’s a decision you won’t regret!
