15 Minute Color Layering Card, Seriously

15 Minute Color Layering Card, Seriously

I kid you not, under 15 minutes. Well, not including getting the supplies out. Most of mine are within arms reach so even including that maybe tack on an extra 3? When I’m sending a hey my girl hurt her ankle, please excuse her from P.E. today note it just doesn’t warrant an elaborate card, but I like to use cards, nonetheless. I mass produced this little cutie. By mass, I mean about 15, which is a lot for this singleton. It features the Hero Arts Layered Topiary. Never has color layering been such a snap!

You could use a Misti for this card, but given that they really are so easy to line up I didn’t. I just used a good ol’ acrylic block. I started with the largest topiary tier, the one at the bottom, and worked my way up and down.

My tip for this set is to take all three layers of a tier and place them on top of each corresponding image exactly as they are printed on the label on the face of the stamp set. This won’t work for all color layering sets, but it does this one. Then, just pick up each layer one at a time and stamp to your card panel in the same orientation. I stamped the first layer in Forever Green Shadow ink on Snow Layering Paper. I picked up the second layer, and again, kept it in the same orientation as I went to stamp over the first impression. This layer was in Moss Bold ink and the third in Green Hills Shadow ink. This set nests nicely together making it super easy.

I then worked through the second tier and then the top. The trunk was next in Caramel Bold ink and then the pot in Intense Black. I swiped a few strokes of grey Copic marker near the edges to add dimension. Once I added the sentiment and bird in Intense Black, I colored the bird with 3 Prismacolor pencils: a bright yellow, a middle and a dark blue.

I trimmed the sides a smidge and adhered to a Sunshine Folded Card base. The Hero Arts card bases are so handy, colored on the outside and white in the middle. Add a couple of Sunshine sequins, write in it and pop it in a matching Sunshine envelope!

Have a crafty weekend!!

I created just one card today, but because I need all the flowers, I chose one image with several. I have a tendency to lean toward the same, predictable, bright color palettes. With this design I went with a more peachy/apricot…. turned out almost fall feel. It is important to me to stretch myself beyond the colors I reach for so often in an effort to grow my abilities. Brights would have been beautiful too, but I am sure enjoying the softness of this color scheme.

I’ve ramped up the contrast in this image to emphasize how I blend. Each petal’s color is built with a light hand, layers and with 3-4 shades of color.

Full supply list linked below.

I began by stamping Dahlia Bouquet in The Ton’s Caviar Hybrid ink with my Misti on Canson Mi-Teintes white paper. I left the stamp mounted in the Misti. I went on to color with Prismacolor Pencils using the darkest shades in the shadowed areas and blending out to lighter and whiter shades. Once finished, I restamped the image in the Misti to crisp up the black lines adding definition. I then Copic colored around the image with BG0000, a very light ink. Mi-Teintes is not the best for blending with Copics so I dribbled drops of Colorless Blender in the open spaces to add texture and blend further. I matted the image on Faded Brick cardstock and Rose Gold heat embossed a sentiment.  Lastly, I tossed on a few Glass Slipper sequins for the requisite sparkle.

The Ton’s 3rd Anniversary Release Blog Hop (1/21)

The Ton’s 3rd Anniversary Release Blog Hop (1/21)

I am thrilled to be participating in The Ton Stamps 3rd Anniversary Release and Blog Hop! I adore florals, you must know that by now! There are very few companies that can compare to the talent Effie demonstrates with her amazing botanicals. What gets me most is that she never lets me down. Every freakin’ release blows me away!

I’ve created 2 cards to share with you today. One featuring the lovely Daisy Duet and the other, super fun Smooched! Scroll on down to check them out!

The Ton has 23 new stamps for their Third Anniversary Release which includes up to two free gifts with purchase (Daisy Duet and Peony Notes Bundle A+B+C). For more information on The Ton’s incentive gifts, head over to The Ton’s blog. All new release products are available now!

Not my traditional colors – I’m more of a bold brights kind of girl, but this Daisy Duet set is just so sweet! I stamped it in The Ton’s Noir Black dye ink on three separate Hero Arts Snow Layering paper A2 panels. I popped each layer with foam tape for eye catching dimension.

The bottom layer I kept just as an outline of where the upper two layers would be popped up. The 2nd layer I only colored the leaves and pink flower with my Polychromo colored pencils and fussy cut them. The top layer is just the fussy cut blue flower. You could even fussy cut more flowers to make a larger bouquet!

When I saw the Smooched stamp set I knew I just had to have it. How fun, right?!? Talk about a super quick card, this one is for sure! I die cut The Ton’s Smooth Gold Glitter Adhesive Paper with Spellbinders Coffee Break die and adhered that to a narrow A2 card panel trimmed up with The Ton’s Minor Stripes stamped in Black and a thin strip of Gina K’s Cherry Red.

The lips are stamped onto Neenah 110# paper in The Ton’s Red Sangria Hybrid ink and fussy cut. Stamp the sentiment in Black and pop up those lips for a snarky sparkly card.

You think Effie puckered up and digitized it? We may never know!

Blog Hop

Giveaway: For each day of The Ton’s blog hop festivities (1/19 to 1/26), Effie is giving away a stamp set of choice to a lucky commenter. To qualify, you must leave a comment on each blog stop for the respective giveaway day for which you are entering. The comment period for all giveaways closes on January 28, 5pm EST.

Happy hopping, my friends!

Oh, Christmas Tree

Oh, Christmas Tree

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree. How Lovely are thy branches…. blah, blah, blah… I don’t know the rest of the lyrics (all in my best sing-songy voice, of course)!

Our Christmas tree is up and glowing. I love to turn off all the lights and enjoy it in all its glistening goodness. No denying that is what inspired today’s card created with Hero Art’s Classic Christmas Tree!

I created this card by first stamping the Christmas Tree in Hero Arts Unicorn Pigment ink on Black Midnight Layering Paper. I blasted it with a heat tool to speed up the dry time. I’m impatient like that *snicker*. Next, I colored the image by tracing the white lines with Prismacolor Colored Pencils. A Signo White Uniball Pen provided the crisp white of the candle bases and ornament details.

Next, I die cut the image and blended ink from the inside toward the outside of the the negative space with Hero Arts White Dye Ink and a touch of Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink. Adhere to A2 folded card base and I then replaced the positive into the opening. I added the Christmas Banner sentiment on kraft, a few stars from Hero Arts Champagne Sequins and Nuvo Crystal Drops in Ivory Seashell. Place in a safe space to dry overnight. Nuvo drops are awesome, but they do take a bit of time to dry completely.

Thank you for spending a few minutes reading about today’s card. I’d love to see what you are creating and pictures of your Christmas trees. Tag me!
