Hooray for Die Cuts!

Hooray for Die Cuts!

Hooray for die cuts and the Small Die of the Month Club at Spellbinders! This month features theses little floral shapes and stems. So cute. Pair those up with a adorbs printed paper pad and we’ve got us a quick and easy card!

Every girl loves a quickie now and again, and this one is just as charming as it could be! I choose a few sheets from the On Trend 2 paper pad and ran all this month’s die through the Platinum 6 die cutting machine at one time (per sheet). I then mixed and matched and layered them up. After stamping Hooray in Extreme Black ink, I adhered the flowers to the card. I popped up a few with foam dots. Super fun, super fast, and those little pops of gold in the paper are everything!

Thank you for spending a few minutes with me today. Have yourself and amazing weekend!

Spellbinders April 2018 Blog Hop (+Giveaways)

Spellbinders April 2018 Blog Hop (+Giveaways)

Good morning! I am excited to be participating in the Spellbinders April 2018 Blog Hop! Spellbinders dies are amazing. Many emboss as well as superbly die cut. The level of detail from a Spellbinders die alone is pretty dang impressive. I’m pretty confident the first dies I ever owned were by Spellbinders. Pretty classic and identifiable with that copper look!

Today, I am sharing a project from Wine Country by Stacey Caron. Other stops on the hop will be showcasing Blooming Garden by Marisa Job, Little Loves by Sharyn Sowell and Folk Art by Lene Lok. So. Much. Goodness!

Wine is so trendy these days, I think it is smart to have a glass or two, err…. I mean, a card or two in the stash. Yep, that’s it, a card or two!

I created this card by die cutting the wine glass from Wine Charms in Smooth Bristol paper and coloring with Arteza watercolor brush markers. After drying, I coated the wine colored area with a Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Gloss Pen for sparkle. An accent line was drawn with my White Signo pen to emulate a glass reflection.

I then cut the beautiful Decorative Accent white panel, also from Smooth Bristol, and adhered in place over the black and white Petite Patterns paper. After popping with the wine glass with dimensional adhesive, I stamped the sentiment from Barrel of Sentiments. I was able to apply the sentiment after the raised glass given the stamp is a thicker, cling style stamp. When stamping this way, especially if using a Misti style stamp positioner, be sure that there is no ink on the lid that could transfer to your project.

I’ve also added a few sequins for a touch of something extra.

I’m all over the hot pink/pool color palette today. I’m totally obsessed! Black and white classically pairs with just about anything and the Gradient Stripes stamp set with the Mega Hello die are no exception.

I’ve created the background on Smooth Bristol paper with an Arteza watercolor marker and clean clear water. As that set aside to dry naturally, I stamped Gradient Stripes onto 110# Neenah Solar White with Jet Black ink. Once thoroughly dry I die cut it with Mega Hello. I also cut two extra layers out of white scrap cardstock. I layered all three sets with the print on top and liquid glued them together to the watercolor background.

I fussy cut a flower and leaves from the 2″ x 3″ set, Mini Hello, stamped in Moss, Rubellite, and Jet Black ink. I’ve popped those up with dimensional adhesive for dimension.

Tip: Run warped paper through a Minc machine or laminator to “iron” it flat!

I was inspired to create this card after taking the Altenew class, With A Twist. The class features various ways to add a twist to your current favorite techniques. My twist on this card is taking the solid leaf portion of the In My Thoughts stamp set and creating a multicolor look.

Troubling cards are hard. When someone stumbles upon a difficult space in life it is sometimes tough to know what to say, much less create in those moments. Instead of struggling when I feel moved to send a card, I have a stash like these that I can personalize on the inside for each event. I hope I never need to send them, but just in case…

This card was created on Smooth Bristol paper. I began by mounting the trunk colored portion in my Misti Precision Stamp Tool. I inked up the inside curve of the trunk in Citrus Burst and stamped. After wiping away any remaining ink from the stamp, I reinked the middle area in Sand Dunes, stamped, wiped and repeated with the outer curve in Mocha.

Next I stamped the trunk outline in Jet Black. The leaves were done with the same technique in Pinkalicious, Rubellite, Razzleberry and Olive. I stamped the sentiment in Jet Black and brushed Sea Breeze around the perimeter to create a glow.

Finishing touches are added with accent borders across the bottom in a black and white stripe, gold glitter (because glitter!) and solid black cardstock. Nuvo Drops in Rhubarb Crumble, Carnation Pink, Apple Green and Ebony carry over the tree colors.

I am rounding out my three projects today with You are Loved, because you know what? You are!

You are Loved pairs the die of same name with the Gradient Lines cover die and a few accents from the Mini Hello stamp set.

The background was created by color washing a bit of pool watercolor paint and Iridescent Shimmer Ink Spray across Smooth Bristol paper.

Crisp white cardstock was die cut with the Gradient Lines cover die and adhered over the dry shimmery background. Three sets of die cut You are Loved was liquid glued together in a stack and generously coated with a Hero Arts Crystal Clear Lacquer Pen. Once allowed to dry overnight, I added (and popped up) a few cutie flowers from the Mini Hello set stamped in Rubellite, Razzleberry, Olive and Jet Black.

15 Minute Color Layering Card, Seriously

15 Minute Color Layering Card, Seriously

I kid you not, under 15 minutes. Well, not including getting the supplies out. Most of mine are within arms reach so even including that maybe tack on an extra 3? When I’m sending a hey my girl hurt her ankle, please excuse her from P.E. today note it just doesn’t warrant an elaborate card, but I like to use cards, nonetheless. I mass produced this little cutie. By mass, I mean about 15, which is a lot for this singleton. It features the Hero Arts Layered Topiary. Never has color layering been such a snap!

You could use a Misti for this card, but given that they really are so easy to line up I didn’t. I just used a good ol’ acrylic block. I started with the largest topiary tier, the one at the bottom, and worked my way up and down.

My tip for this set is to take all three layers of a tier and place them on top of each corresponding image exactly as they are printed on the label on the face of the stamp set. This won’t work for all color layering sets, but it does this one. Then, just pick up each layer one at a time and stamp to your card panel in the same orientation. I stamped the first layer in Forever Green Shadow ink on Snow Layering Paper. I picked up the second layer, and again, kept it in the same orientation as I went to stamp over the first impression. This layer was in Moss Bold ink and the third in Green Hills Shadow ink. This set nests nicely together making it super easy.

I then worked through the second tier and then the top. The trunk was next in Caramel Bold ink and then the pot in Intense Black. I swiped a few strokes of grey Copic marker near the edges to add dimension. Once I added the sentiment and bird in Intense Black, I colored the bird with 3 Prismacolor pencils: a bright yellow, a middle and a dark blue.

I trimmed the sides a smidge and adhered to a Sunshine Folded Card base. The Hero Arts card bases are so handy, colored on the outside and white in the middle. Add a couple of Sunshine sequins, write in it and pop it in a matching Sunshine envelope!

Have a crafty weekend!!

Generic Sentiments

Generic Sentiments

When I wait to craft cards until I need them I often come up against a creative block. I like to flip through my stamps and use whatever inspires me (which is often way too much!). Problem with that sometimes is the sentiment. I want to be able to use the cards eventually. I would like them to be useful and practical. So, generic sentiments is key. I like to use sentiments on the front of the card that can work for several scenarios and then personalize the interior of a card when I go to use it. “Love Always,” like I’ve used today, will work for birthdays, Mother’s Day, sympathy, or just because.

I began with an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) panel of 110# Neenah Solar White paper. I masked across the long length of paper to create an image boundary and protect the bottom section of the card. Next, I stamped the Hero Arts woodblock Nasturtium image in the middle placing it just a 1/2″ or so below the top in Copic friendly Hero Arts Intense Black ink.  I used the same top portion of the Nasturtium image for the flowers to the left, only tilted a smidge. The leafy portion to the right is the stamp flipped, bottoms up!

I got pretty clean lines with each freehanded stamp, but if going for broke worries you, a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig or a few Misti Creative Corners stacked up works pretty well too. Don’t be afraid of woodblock stamps! They really do provide the best stamped images.

We’ve got two choices when it comes to coloring this image with Copics…. we can leave the masking paper in place and use caution, or remove it and attempt to keep a straight-ish line. I removed it because I was afraid I would get marker on the masking and it would soak through.

Today, I colored dark to light (sorta). That isn’t always the case, but that’s what I was feelin’ at the moment. I used R37 at the outer edge and the center of each petal with a flicking motion. Then R24 followed by RV13, blending each shade a little closer to the highlight.  The white highlight on each petal aims for that area to look as if it is closest to us. I added a touch of a darker shade of red, R56, to the deepest portions of the petal to push them away. I used the same technique for the leaves, omitting the 4th darkest shade, in G99, YG95 and YG13.

Hero Arts Tribal Stripes Bold Prints, a sentiment from the Support, Prayers, Love stamp set and a few sequins finish off the card.

Thank you for spending a few minutes with me today. I hope you have an enjoyable weekend. I’ll be sewing up some clothes on a new serger and coverstitch machine! Happy crafting to us all!
