Hello and welcome! Today, I am sharing and watercolor and colored pencil combo. I don’t often tend to combine mediums on a single stamped image, but I’ma thinkin’ I should more often! I recently took the Altenew Beautiful Details class and was inspired to add another level of detail with a second medium. I chose this particular combination because as much as I love colored pencil art, it is super time consuming. So, why not lay down that base layer of color with Altenew Watercolors and then layer Prismacolor pencils on top for depth and dimension?
I began by stamping the Perfectly Perfect stamp images onto Arches Hot Pressed watercolor paper in watercolor friendly Jet Black ink and clear heat embossing. I then watercolored with a single pink and yellow from the Altenew watercolor set. I added the pink at the outer edge of the petal and the yellow at the base of the petal and blended them each to white in the middle with clean clear water.
Once dry, I added a darker shade of pink and yellow Prismacolor pencils to enhance depth. I blended the colored pencils with strokes from petal tip to base and vice versa using a white Prismacolor pencil. If you look closely you can see the stroke detail. I’ll definitely be repeating this technique!
After penciling the flowers and allowing leaves to dry, I die cut them. I then tucked and overlapped the images to create a diagonal-ish swag and adhered them in place with liquid glue. I stamped the larger sentiment in black and popped the white embossed sentiment with foam tape for added dimension. Several clear confetti style sequins provide just the right amount of sparkle.
Remember, even the most experience crafters can learn from each other and classes. We may be reminded of techniques long forgotten and might even discover a new way of creating.
Have an amazing week. I’ll see you soon!
