We are speeding hot and heavy right into the most patriotic time of year. I was inspired to create today’s projects based on the Altenew Academy class, Color Your Day. The first lesson had me captured. The idea is simple, choose a photo with a strong color palette and springboard those into a papercraft project. Scrolling Pinterest, I was obviously enamored with an image of the American flag!
My first project today features classic red, white, and blue with the Climbing Clematis color layering stamp and die set. Layer Altenew’s Rose Quartz as the base color, then Coral Berry, Ruby Red and Velvet on Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 110# cardstock. Stamp details in Honey Drizzle and Jet Black. Die cut flowers.
Complete components with the Pinstripe background stamp in Jet Black and a white heat embossed sentiment. Arrange flowers and leaves. Press Glad Press’n Seal over die cuts to keep from shifting as you flip to add adhesive. Pop and tuck sentiment for drama. Adhere finished panel to card base. Add sequins, if desired, for sparkle.
I’m not sure there is anything much more patriotic than the American flag and eagles! I’ve combined the two and pieced them together for the ultimate show of patriotism in a card.
Die cut 3 Smooth Bristol panels with the Moroccan Mosaic Cover die. One colored red, one white and one blue with your favorite watercolor brush markers. Before removing cut paper from die, place a removable label over the exposed back to secure all pieces in order. Adhere a strong tape to completely cover the front of a folded A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) card base. Adhere white die cut frame in place.
Piece each section color in place onto exposed tape to resemble an American flag. I like to use a Crystal Katana tool to easily pick up each paper piece. Stamp Land of the Free eagle in Jet Black and die cut. Heat emboss sentiment. Pop up eagle with dimensional adhesive, tuck sentiment in place and add a few sequins for sparkle.
Mask flowers and leaves (I usually just prefer full stick Post-It notes). Stamp Polka Dots from Pinstripe stamp set in Jet Black. Heat emboss sentiment on black strip. Partial stamp just “heart” by coloring just that word with a marker of choice. Repeat stamp as many times as needed for full coverage. Add sentiment strip popped up with dimensional adhesive. Again, a few sparkles for that extra detail.
