Howdy, Howdy! I am coming to you today from a quilt retreat with 20 of my best crafty gals. I am a quilter as well, but I am cardmaking this trip. I am blessed to be able to attend several retreats a year, but this is the only one I will attend at the Cambria Pines Lodge. You guys, if ever on the Central California coast… this place is worth a visit. Enjoy the gardens, the enchanting town of Cambria and Moonstone Beach. This is good for the soul.
This card is a combination of images. The girl is Uptown Girl Brittany the Birthday Girl by Stamping Bella. The cup is from the Big Bold Brew stamp set by Neat & Tangled. The sentiment is from Hug in a Mug by The Ton. With a bit of masking I was able to remove the cake that is normally in Miss Brittany’s hands and replaced with a cleverly masked mug. Normally this mug is cradled a boy, arms wrapped around, legs extending below and head peeking above the rim. I masked him out and and then had to redraw a few connecting lines and a new handle on the opposite side of the cup. You can see the original sets by clicking the coordinating links above or viewing the linked images at the bottom of this post. With a little imagination you can create a tremendous amount of altered images to suit your needs.
Once the image was stamped with Copic friendly black ink, I masked it with Fineline Liquid Masking Fluid. Be sure to let it dry 100%… longer then you think, overnight is even better. If there is any moisture you will pull the top layer of paper and end up with a rough finish. Humph, ask me how I know.
Once you are super-dee-duper (that’s the technical term) for sure it is dry, ink blend with Distress Inks. I used Squeezed Lemonade, Vintage Photo and Broken China. Then roll off the masking fluid with clean dry fingers.
I colored the image with Copic markers. The cup and red accent are R14, R29, and R39. Coffee is E79. Hair is E18, E23, E79. Skin is E11, E33, E35 and a touch of R21 for rosy cheeks. The dress in simple grey is N0, N1, N2 and N3. I then used a 0.3 Copic Multiliner to outline a few key areas of the image.
For a bit of extra oomph, I added a combo of Golden Sunset and Dark Walnut Nuvo Crystal Drops over the coffee. Her dress is coated in Spectrum Noir’s Clear Sparkle Pen. Next, I lined up the sentiment in the Misti Precision Stamping Tool and voila – crisp, clear, double stamped text. And because one can never have enough bling, a few Metallic Bronze Pretty Pink Posh sequins are included.
I created this image especially with the summer edition of the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop in mind. So much fun and inspiration to be found among the design team and all of the linked up images. You can find it here.
Thank you for popping in today. And if you a hopping along… I hope you have a cup of joe or tea in your hand as you peruse all the goodness! See you again soon!
