Love me an organic watercolor background. This one turned out dreamy! I scribbled, (yep, nothing fancy) just scribbled on Bristol paper with a blue and a coral Arteza watercolor brush marker. I Then used a wet paint brush and loosely scribbled again over the markered area. I was careful at the beginning to not mix the two colors. After a minute or so I allowed them to just kiss. The varying amounts of water along the border caused the colors to create the push and pull into each other. Scribble a quarter sized amount of color onto a craft mat. Dip in saturated paint brush and splatter similarly colored area of panel.

Set it aside to dry or use a heat tool to speed the process. If you find your paper has warped once dry, pass through a warm Minc machine or laminator to iron it flat.

Die cut the nest (kit) into dark woodgrain paper (kit). Define branches of the nest by running a dotting tool along them. I pressed some to the front and others to the back while on top of the foam from my Misti creating ridges, valleys and most importantly – dimension. I tucked in a few Bristol paper die cut eggs (kit) and branches (kit) also colored with the Arteza markers.

Arteza markers are extremely similar to the Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers, but are at a lower price point. The Arteza brush is not quite at fine as the Zig, and sometimes has a few stray strands, but the color from the Arteza are more vibrant, in my opinion.

Trim watercolor panel to slightly smaller than A2 and stamp sentiment (kit) in Soft Granite. Mount panel on A2 stone woodgrain paper (kit). Secure eggs and twigs. Adhere nest with foam tape for a touch of height.

Valentine’s Quickies w/Metallic Mist

Valentine’s Quickies w/Metallic Mist

As promised, a couple more quickie Valentine’s cards! These two are created from products out of the Hero Arts Valentine’s catalog (their first catalog I created for). Both cards feature the Pink Shimmer spray on Bristol paper, which is key good color and sparkle.

Pink Metallic Mist on Bristol paper is amazing, on Neenah not so much. When it is misted on Neenah the color absorbs into the paper and leaves a silvery sparkle, which, don’t get me wrong, could be great if that is the look you are after. I wasn’t. I wanted the pink to stand out. I opted for spritzing it onto plastic stamp packaging and then smooshing it onto Bristol paper. The Bristol paper has a smooth coating and keeps the color on the surface and still dries well. Win, win!

I used two Nesting Hearts to create a chipboard heart frame and coated it with several layers of Gold embossing powder. I stamped an adorbs Cherub in Crimson ink and die cut. I attached a couple of banners, one with a sentiment and the other made up of Tiny Hearts. I adhered everything in place and used a Tiny Attacher for the banners.

The Pink Metallic Mist on this card was first sprayed onto a swirl stencil. I was using the stencil in a more traditional fashion for this card and thought well I don’t want to waste all of this loveliness on the stencil itself. So I carefully moved the stencil to a dry area of my craft mat and placed an A2 Bristol panel on top. I let it sit a moment for good color transfer and then revealed patterned goodness.

After stamping the sentiments in Intense Black ink and heat embossing the heart in the center, I trimmed the panel down a touch and adhered it to a black Midnight Layering paper. Makes for a simple card, easily mailed. Perfect quickie to give to those in which you want to share your handmade kindness, but think they probably don’t value it the same way we do. We all have those people in our lives. It doesn’t mean they are less deserving, just perhaps a quicker card!

Remember, cards don’t have to be complicated and time consuming to be meaningful. Get creating and get them in the mail to put a smile on someone you cherish. Share your Creative Bliss! <3

P.S. If you have a stamp set in your stash you’d like to see a card with, pease drop me a note through my contact page. If I have it, I’ll see what I can do!

Neutral Valentine’s Cards

Neutral Valentine’s Cards

Awe, giraffes! So cute! Today and Wednesday I am sharing a couple of quick cards to give you inspiration for all the Valentines in your life. Today’s card features Hero Arts Loving Giraffes and Vintage Ombre Pigment ink in Metallic Rust. Cards don’t have to be complicated and time consuming to show someone you care. Sometimes it is a matter of just getting them done and in the mail. These sweet giraffes can be inked up, cut out and ready to go in no time flat!

I simply inked up Loving Giraffes with gender neutral Vintage Ombre Pigment ink in Metallic Rust and stamped onto 110# Neenah Solar White cardstock. The three tones of metallic ombre ink in one pad is perfect to liven up stamps, quick and painless. I then created the background color by taking the same ink pad and swiping it left to right across an A2 Neenah panel to create streaks of color. Swipe a few times for full coverage. Fussy cut those sweet giraffes and pop them up. Finally, add the super fun sentiment from Hero Arts We Go Together, add Three Tiny Hearts and sprinkle on a few sequins. Pinky swear, it is quick and anyone can have success with this card!

I hope you’ve been inspired to enjoy some craft therapy of your own! Be sure to scroll down for project supplies and New Sale News. See you Wednesday!

Ellen Hutson & Hero Arts are Better Together

Ellen Hutson & Hero Arts are Better Together

I adore companies that support one another. Ellen Hutson, LLC and Hero Arts both have a long standing tradition of doing just that, so it was no surprise to me when they teamed up to release the latest United We Flourish stamp and die set.

This stamp set is just so stinkin’ cheerful! The styling of the birds just sings happiness to me. *Tweet – Tweet*

  • Apply alcohol ink (linked in supplies below) to a 3 1/2″ square Yupo paper placing intermixing drops of color and rubbing alcohol. Blow with straw or use paint brush to move colors. Don’t give up when you think it looks a hot mess. Lift ink with paper towel and try again. Keep playing until you are happy! Set aside to dry.
  • Stamp Better Together images on 110# Neenah, color with Copics (linked in supplies below) and die cut.
  • Die cut circle into 3 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Snow Layering paper.
  • Stamp fence on 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Snow Layering paper panel using circle panel as a guide.
  • Audition birds and branch on circle panel and stamp sentiments.
  • Sandwich Yupo alcohol panel between circle panel and fence panel with tape adhesive.
  • Adhere birds and branch with tape or liquid adhesive. I prefer liquid for the wiggle room.
  • Adhere to A2 folded card base.
